ICE detains 6 Guatemalan workers remodeling a house in Maryland

The “worksite raid” was a home job. Six families are living the terror of “we left for work, and might not come home.”

Six Guatemalan workers were arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents on Monday, March 23, 2026, while remodeling a home — an operation that was recorded on video — in Cambridge, Maryland.

The men, between 18 and 40 years old, had traveled from Glen Burnie to begin the project when the immigration authorities intervened that morning.

The arrest was livestreamed for about 30 minutes by a coworker identified as Bryan Polanco, who was not detained because he has permanent residency in the United States.

“We basically had a project to start today… when they started the work, the homeowner kind of called immigration,” Polanco told N+ Univision DC.

“What she did tell me — and I told one of the other guys — is that if immigrants come back again to finish the project, she will always call ICE.”

In the footage, agents are seen carrying out the operation peacefully and moving the detainees in handcuffs to official vehicles.

Outrage and concern after the detention:

“It’s not the same to see it as it is to live it — I’ve seen a lot of videos, and sadly today I had to experience it, and I feel like it’s something that really moves you,” he said.

Polanco expressed outrage at what happened. “Very sad about the situation… many Hispanics here in the United States have felt persecuted. We leave the house and we don’t know if we’re going to come back,” he said.

Relatives of those detained expressed concern about their situation. In a phone call, the wife of one of the arrested men, who asked not to be identified, said she is going through a difficult time.

“I feel so sad, desperate for my husband… we’re here to move forward, not to do evil,” she said. She added that she is five months pregnant and has two children.

So far, authorities have not provided additional details about the individual immigration status of those detained, although, according to people close to them, they did not have documents to remain in the country.

The case has sparked concern within the local immigrant community, while families wait for information about the process the arrested men will face.
